The Myth of the “Typical Victim”

One of the most dangerous misconceptions about trafficking is believing victims fit a stereotype.
The truth?
There is no typical victim.

Victims can come from:
• wealthy neighborhoods
• stable families
• faith based communities
• foster care systems
• broken homes
• small towns
• large cities

Trafficking is an exploitation of vulnerability, not environment.
A straight A student can be groomed just as easily as a runaway.
A child with strong parents can still be manipulated online.
A kid who appears confident can still hide insecurities that a trafficker knows exactly how to exploit.

When parents assume “my child would never…,” they unintentionally lower their guard.
When communities assume “that only happens over there…,” they miss what’s happening right here.

There is no profile for victims only risk factors.
And awareness helps eliminate those risks.
