Warning Signs Every Parent Should Know

Warning Signs Every Parent Should Know

Most victims don’t realize they’re being trafficked.

Most parents don’t realize the signs until it’s too late.

Here are the most commonly overlooked warning signs:

• sudden secrecy with devices
• new older “friends” a child won’t talk about
• unexplained money, clothing, or gifts
• withdrawing from family
• drastic behavior changes
• running away or attempting to
• unusually sexualized behavior or language
• emotional dependence on someone they’ve never met in person
• refusing to share passwords or accounts out of fear
• appearing anxious when separated from their phone

Trafficker manipulation makes kids feel responsible, ashamed, or scared of telling the truth. The signs can be subtle sometimes invisible unless parents know what to look for.

Awareness doesn’t mean fear.
Awareness means empowerment.
When parents know the signs, they can take action early before a trafficker does.
