Children Online

Traffickers don’t chase victims they recruit them.
And today, the recruitment ground is the smartphone in a child’s hand.

Grooming usually follows a predictable pattern:

1. Targeting
Traffickers search platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Snapchat, and gaming chats for kids posting about loneliness, conflict at home, or self esteem issues.

2. Building Trust
They present themselves as a “safe place.” Compliments. Encouragement. Validation. They position themselves as the one person who understands.

3. Isolation
The trafficker encourages secrecy:
“Don’t tell your parents.”
“They wouldn’t get it.”
“This is just between us.”

4. Dependency
Gifts, money, support, or emotional attachment are used as leverage.

5. Control
Eventually, the trafficker begins asking for photos or favors, manipulating the child into compliance through shame, threats, or emotional pressure.

Parents must understand: grooming rarely looks dangerous at first. It looks like a “friendship.” It looks like someone who cares. But traffickers operate with strategy, patience, and precision.

Awareness is protection. Conversations with your child matter more than you think.
