Emotional Whiplash

The Emotional Whiplash of Recovery

Recovery is often celebrated and it should be.

But emotionally, it can be complicated.

Survivors may feel:

  • Relief

  • Fear

  • Shame

  • Confusion

Families may expect immediate happiness, but healing doesn’t happen overnight.

This emotional “whiplash” is normal.

It’s why support after recovery is just as important as the rescue itself, and preparing families for how to heal properly is something we often see also.
