The Connection Between Runaways and Exploitation

Youth who run away from home face significant risks. Studies have shown that runaway and homeless youth are often targeted by traffickers who exploit their vulnerability, lack of resources, and need for shelter. Traffickers may approach young people offering food, housing, or emotional support before coercing them into exploitation. Communities and families must take missing youth reports seriously and work quickly to locate and support vulnerable children before they encounter individuals seeking to exploit them.
