The Hidden Language of Traffickers

Human trafficking rarely starts with force. It starts with trust.

According to the Polaris Project, many victims are recruited by someone they know or by someone who intentionally builds a relationship over time. Recruitment often includes flattery, promises of opportunity, financial support, or romantic attention followed by gradual isolation.

The National Human Trafficking Hotline reports that traffickers frequently use social media to identify vulnerable youth, especially those expressing loneliness or instability online.

The U.S. Department of Justice confirms that psychological coercion is more common than physical restraint.

Awareness of these grooming patterns is one of the strongest forms of prevention.
